1) What are the advantages of using fMRI technology for brain research?
2) Why is it important for educators to know how the brain develops?
3) How can learning about brain development help parents and teachers of teenagers?
4) From a cognitive neuroscience perspective, learning involves forming and strengthening neural connections and networks. In our presentation, we suggested some specific educational practices that facilitate learning and are supported by brain research. These important practices are problem-based learning, simulations and role-playing, active discussions, graphics and positive climate. Give a few specific examples of how teachers can incorporate simulations and role-playing in an on-line teaching environment?
5) A positive climate in the classroom has been identified as essential for facilitating learning. How can teachers create a positive climate in an on-line teaching environment? Give a few specific examples.
6) Is the practice of teaching to different sides of the brain (right brain, left brain) supported by empirical research? Explain.
7) Brain research shows that various environmental factors can arouse and maintain people’s attention. These factors include importance, novelty, intensity, and movement. Give an example of how teachers can build one of these factors into their lesson.
8) Memory formation is a continuous process in which neural connections are stabilized over a period of time. The process of stabilizing and strengthening neural connections is known as consolidation. Factors such as organization, rehearsal and elaboration improve consolidation. Give an example of how teachers can build one of these factors into their lesson.
9) Do you have any comments to make about our presentation or about cognitive neuroscience in general?
